Relaxation methods are one of the major stress relief techniques. And meditation stands tall among those relaxation methods. It is an ancient religious practice that makes it a little old method of stress relief.
Time has changed, society has changed and so is the lifestyle. Modern lifestyle and modern thoughts have taken precedence over traditional one.
But one thing has not changed; the rules of health building. In fact it has become more precious considering the type and amount of abuse our body is subjected to in this modern era. Unfortunately to counter this growingly modern abuse of the body and mind, science could not throw a solution more potent and more effective than meditation as a relaxation method.
For the time being, forget about the spirituality part of meditation, though relaxation is just a byproduct of meditation. Now this is prescribed not just by spiritual masters, but by behavioral scientists, medical practitioners and business consultants. Half a century back it was still an unheard term only known to spiritual practitioners.
After the world war II Zen Buddhism spread in the west largely by the writing of D.T Suzuki, a Buddhist scholar. It caught imagination because stillness of mind was lacking in the lives of people.
This stillness of mind is what is a perfect recipe for stress relief. In fact in advanced stages of meditation, leave alone stress relief, you are almost immune to any type of stress. But that is not intended here as it requires much time and determination.
For our purpose, basic meditation well gives you much immunity from the ill effects of stress. That will prepare you for more things if you ever like adventure into it.But those advanced techniques are best practiced under highly competent persons.
