Meditation apart from a, relaxation technique, has basically a touch of eastern religious or spiritual traditions. When practiced religiously it has tremendous results proven by few highly competent persons of both east and western world.
But those practices need time and freedom to achieve them. So in this context meditation can be used as a relaxation technique only which is now being prescribed by many authentic doctors, management personals and even corporate sectors.
So achieving such results is not so difficult. You only need a proper will to follow a basic plan daily or at least 4-5 times a week. Apart from the daily schedule, meditation is more a way of life. Certain things you may need to practice always, even while working, cooking or during any other work. Your consciousness is controlled through your own will. So it is not merely a matter of sitting still 15 minutes or 30 minutes a day.
