If you see mind as a bunch of muscle groups just like your other body parts, then you may face difficulty in understanding hypnosis and its effect on mind. The definition of brain more appropriately fits to the concept of muscle groups or grey cells.
But modern science has found it very difficult to penetrate into the concept of mind. Metaphysical people got an entry into the realm of mind through various means like meditation and hypnosis. Meditation is a very powerful tool which lately is being used for relaxation purposes only by modern professionals.
Hypnosis enjoys a status of getting an inside view of mind and to some extent influencing it. It takes into account two definite states of mind, conscious mind and sub conscious mind. There should not be any second thought about the existence of such states of mind. If that is difficult to understand, then think of sleeping state of mind. You will get a better idea.
The very tricky question is “does the mind control us or do we control the mind”? We tend to believe that our conscious state is our mind. Since we interact with each other at a conscious level everything that happens to us at work, at home, while commuting, ends up having a cumulating affect and over time becomes extremely stressful. The overall affect is usually an increase in health problems and mental health issues which ends up affecting our relationship with others and ourselves.
Hypnosis goes beyond this concept. What if you were to learn that we are more than just our conscious self and that because of this anything that affects you at the conscious level can’t penetrate the deeper levels of consciousness unless you allow it? Just like a storm on water surface creates ripples on the surface, but the water deep down remains calm, exactly the subconscious mind may be unaffected by the disturbing effects on the conscious mind.
If you allow yourself to interact with the world with all its levels of consciousness, you will find that anything impacting your conscious self will not impact your subconscious self. We will be in control of ourselves and no matter how hard others try; we can only be influenced if we want to be. If we allow these influences to filter down through all our depths into our deeper selves. When you begin to realize that you are in control of your mind not the other way around, you begin to see the possibilities.
Hypnosis explores these possibilities and has successfully proven itself on many aspects of mind. Traditionally it has been used to cure many ailments, mental and physical.
